Building and pointing mortars

 

For stone construction, durable Sandstone, Limestone and semi-vitrified brick (moderately permeable). For all exposures and in demanding situations.

Bleaklow coarse stuff with brickdust/pozzolana. Alternatively one of the following mixes:

For soft brickwork, well weathered Sandstone and Limestone (permeable) in most exposures and for most situations.

Bleaklow medium stuff with or without brickdust/pozzolana. Alternatively one of the following mixes:

BRICKDUST
CEMENT

For pointing carried out as a replacement of hard cement pointing or to repair badly weathered joints. The following formulas will provide two good general purpose mortars.

Bleaklow medium stuff with or without brickdust/pozzolana.

Bleaklow fine stuff with or without brickdust/pozzolana .

Alternatively one of the following mixes:

BRICKDUST

Mortar requirements will vary for each building material but as an example for a one brick solid wall with the frog up typically 215mm thickness with 10mm joints and no mortar wastage, allow 0.53 cubic metres per 10 square metres of walling.
